Community Partnership | TFC Recycling
TFC Recycling, the provider of residential recycling services to over 500,000 households in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia, now accepts hot and cold paper cups as part of its recycling program.
This development was made possible by a collaborative equipment grant from FPI and NextGen Consortium, which funded the installation of new AI optical sorting technology at TFC’s materials recovery facility (MRF). With this technology in place, TFC Recycling joins a growing number of MRFs and communities adding paper cups to their residential recycling programs.
A communications grant from FPI is funding an educational campaign, raising awareness about proper paper cup recycling practices and highlighting the already accepted take-out items. Outreach efforts will include a customized recycling video, a revamped recycling graphic and magnet, social media posts, ads in movie theaters streaming online, and branded cup sleeves with recycling messages distributed at local coffee shops.
